Ordered the GMC Engine Olive factory paint from Jim Carter Trucks. A quart costs just bout $54 delivered.
Can is labeled NASON and its a DuPont enamel paint. Even in a sealed can the stuff stinks (vapors). I need to get some specific reducer from NASON (this stuff is heavy duty paint and I don't want to screw up my guns or the part).
I have not opened it due to the horrid oder (its the middle of winter and opening a window is not an option).
Once the temp gets above 50 I have a GMC valve cover from that I will clean, media blast, then paint and post pics.

Not sure how old this price list is:
DUPONT - NASON REDUCERS DUP 441-21 1QT FUL-BASE REDUCER - MEDIUM $6.56 $7.44 $8.75
But $10 for a qt of reducer is not bad.

I am looking for your advise regarding the Engine Paint-Olive 1939-1948 GMC 6 Cylinder paint you thought would match. I want to paint the engine the best color available. My TM9 munitions paint does not look close to the greens on my 270's and it is NOT a high temp paint. Thanks in advance. Paul

Talking to the guys on the Stovebolt Forum and looking through GM brochures and also talking to vendors GM used one engine paint for most of the 30's and 40's on GM engines off the line. The 'GM Olive' paint is the same across all the reproduction/restoration vendors (as is the blue, gray and red).
So the GM Olive is the 'factory' paint.
Once an engine was overhauled/rebuilt at 4the or 5th echelon is was painted standard Olive Drab.
Unless there is other, more specific documentation that's as close as I can get using the internet and emailing people.

How is the painting going - would like to know what that paint colour you bought is like.
There are pics on ebay occasionally of NOS CCKW engine sheetmetal with what ought to be correct WW2 factory paint - have you seen any of these?

I have a valve cover media blasted, but have not gotten to the paint part. On the days its been above 60F painting was not on the list of things to do.
That paint is $60 PER QUART(!) so I don't want to use it in less than optimal conditions.
Come to think of it, I should take it to my local paint supply shop and have them mix up a few quarts. I got a quart of New Ford Gray (Plasticote 216 IIRC) for $18. One rattle can is list $8 and holds a few ounces.
