2 quarts of semi-gloss black, half a pint hardener, about 2 cups of acetone to thin. I gave the frame two coats and still had just under 1 quart of black left. I think the reason why I went through so much primer was that initially I used a roller to apply the paint... when that was not getting into the nooks/crannies I sprayed the primer on. I don't think I could have did the entire frame with just one quart of black, though. Not two light coats and the touch ups I had to do.
I also moved the front stands from under the frame to under the spring stops. That way I can paint them once the axles are under the frame.
New location of the stands.. much easier to get to the engine mounts and front cross member this way.

A gallon of red oxide primer from a vendor is $39, but its nothing special... just primer. I spent a little less than $20 for the two quarts of rust-oluem, and another $20 for the two cans of semi-gloss black, 2 pints of hardener were $30 and I had the acetone... shipping paint is really not practical due to hazmat fees... but I might have saved a little money if I went to a car paint supply house and got them to mix me half a gallon of semi-gloss black.
I'm happy with the results... plus now I will be the only kid on the block with those black spots under the removable parts of frame parts. Not sure if I will do this with the cab... if I can find a black semi-gloss primer I will... but I don't think putting 3 coats of paint down is going to be something I do for the whole truck.
