Original door seals?

Postby pfarber » Thu Feb 07, 2013 6:39 am

I was taking trim pieces off the 41 cab and noticed that the door seal was rather unique in construction... not sure if it was original or added on... but the stitching looked machine sewn (double need lock stitch 1/4inch apart.. to straight/tight to be hand done).

It was a piece of canvas about 1.5 inches long, and it was folded in two, and in the center was a white cotton rope. I mean an actual rope about 1/2 inch in diameter. It was sewn together like you would expect normal piping or cording to be. The was held in by the trim piece's screws.

I was out of batteries so pics are coming. Any idea if this is an original part or a mod done later on??

Here's the seal still screwed into the trim around the passengers door:

More pics of the seal.. its in two of the three Chevy's I have.... so I'm gonna guess they are supposed to be there. Shouldn't be hard to get made... New Life does not seem to have them listed.

Looks like 1/2 in cotton rope wrapped in canvas and double stitched.

Thats pretty wild, that you can actually see the twists of the rope inside the canvas. My truck has a hollow rubber tube seal, with a rubber flange that screws under the metal edging. Probably came up with your type due to the rubber shortage.

My guess would be mid -late 42 the rubber would have been purged as on the jeep and the CCKW.
