G506 cargo bed mounting

Looking for info on proper thickness of wooden spacer between metal cargo bed and frame. Also trying to determine proper spring and bolt specs for the bolted positions at the front and back of bed. Finally, what is the proper bolt size for the bolt and plates in the midsection of the bed?

Any info or photos appreciated.

Spring mounts were only used on at the front, the rear used sheer bolt's and brackets (as did the CCKW).

I can get you a bit of info on the wood beds, steel, not so much. Looking at my CCKW Composite bed the wood strips were an inch. It only has to be thick enough to allow for the rivet heads along the frame rails to be covered.

What kind of cargo bed do you have? Early all steel welded (what I have), all wood bed, or composite bed?

I have a wood bed.. it was heavily bubba-ized (4x4 treated lumber for cross sills etc) but the metal parts are there. I also have wood and composite CCKW beds.

If you don't mind sending the measurement of the filler strip (whatever its called) that'd be great.

My bed is an all steel, welded cargo bed (early style). The bed has Bent PL support channels that run parallel to the frame rails. The bent PL channels are 6 inches high, and 2-1/2 inches wide. These channels sit on hardwood sleepers, which measure 2 inches high x 2-1/2 inches wide x 59 inches long. The front end of the wood sleeper sits flush with the front of the bent PL channels, while the back end is approx 7-3/4 inches short of the back end of the steel channels. Just realized this thread is located under G508 - CCKW, and probably belongs under G506 - Chevy... perhaps a mod (Paul) can move it?

That might be a GM manual provided to the civilian workers in the 'little Detroits' set up overseas.

The manual I have is a TACOM manual that covers 4 different beds.. wood only (Chevvy, 352, 353 and a Ford beds).

I agree that the manual on the G503 has to be late 42 or 43... the oval decal with the 'Use Senior MIlitary Filter' text came out in early 43 (the earliest reference I have of it is the 43 TM9-801).

If you can contact the poster, have him look on the last page of the index, copyright in the 40's required all material to be covered under copyright to have a date of printing on it due to the copyright actually expiring in a sane amount of time (28 years). That should at least give the date of printing.
