Fire truck identification?

Postby SpookyDad » Tue Jul 01, 2008 11:35 pm

Can somebody help me sort out this data plate information?

The Data plate on the dash has this information:

Rebuilt by 229th Ordinance Base Depot
Jo# 388033
Shop: 005
Vehicle: CCXW 353
Serial #: (Blank)

Under the dash is another plate covered over with paint. What can be made out is:

Manufacturer Serial # : XXXXXX <-- Stamped out.
We think the numbers under the X's are ?79872

The pump data plate has the following information:

Engineering Stock # 11-4700-255-000
Code: 556
Pump: Centrifugal Gas Driven
Fire Truck Mount
Type: F
Pump# 4

Does this mean anything to anyone?

Your stock code for the pump looks like either an NSN or FSN type number, post war.

The only rebuild tag I have seen was on my CCKW, from Yellow Truck & Coach Mfg, it lists the a number but not the frame #.

If it IS a CCXW, then it would be a pretty uncommon truck. X = longer than standard wheelbase.

Don't chop it up just yet it may be rare.

Other than the possibility of the truck itself being unusual, the pump is not.

For a more into on US firetrucks, try Bob at www.vehiclesofvictory.com... he's into fire trucks a bit.

Also an e-mail to www.armycarsusa.com about the CCXW might be worth your while.
