Servicing the Bendix Hydrovac

43. Place the piston return spring and center plate in position. Be sure the center plate is right side up, that is, with the piston guide boss at the center, extending upward.

44. Again place a pin in the port holes as illustrated in Fig. 40 to temporarily hold the center plate out of the way so the rear piston can be assembled.

45. Turn the inside piston rod nut down to the end of the threads on the piston rod. Coat threads of piston rod with shellac or sealing compound.

46. Assemble the rear piston in a piston ring and with the assem bly ring still in place, put the piston on the piston rod.

47. Place the push rod in position and secure with the retaining

48. Turn down the outside piston nut until it is flush with the end of the piston rod, then tighten the inner nut against the piston plate. Remove the temporary pin (referred to in Paragraph 44). The distance “A”, Fig. 23, between the gasket surface on the center plate and the end of the push rod should be within the tolerances shown below. If necessary adjust the nuts so that the distance “A” is within the tolerance shown.

49. Again place the pin in the port holes as illustrated in Fig. 10. Bring the inside piston nut up against the piston plate and tighten se curely. Do not stake the outer nut at this time.

50. Remove the pin from the port holes, which allows the center plate to come up against the rear piston.
