Filter screwup

Postby pfarber » Fri Sep 18, 2015 10:40 am

So I'm changing the oil on the ol' ZJ and I start up the motor... see pressure get to normal a little slower... but didn't think twice. Back up out of the garage and a pool of oil is on the floor and a nice dark line of oil in on the grass. Frack!

Shut off the motor and check to make sure I have the oil pan plug in.. yep, its there.

Open the hood and the passenger side is coated in oil.. FRACK did the filter explode? Nope, still there. I check to make sure its tight... nope, it's pretty loose (!?!?!) so I turn it.. after one full turn its STILL loose! So I take if off and there I see the old filters gasket stuck to the new filters gasket.

That's a first. I double check the old filter and yep... the old filter is missing the gasket. So after an hour of clean up I'm finally done with a 15 minute oil change.

No leaks with the new filter... but damn... what are the odds?
I got a Mountain Cur and a ~~pitbull~~ big loveable cuddle puppy
