While going through the usual web sites today I see a guy posted some pics of an MV 'restoration' he was working on. There were the obligatory 'you are an artist!', and 'great work!'... yet the pictures only showed some axles painted OD.
Mixing paint can be a chore.. holding that drill trigger while the agitator spins the mix... pointing the gun at the big metal object is also challenging work.
No talk of bearing packing, or having to construct a special tool to pull out oil seals... or fabbing up a holder to check ring gear runout.... just green object on the floor and people noting on what a fine green they are (they didn't even note the paint type, manufacturer etc).
Writing up a good post is almost as much work as doing the actual mechanical work.. but if you expect to pass on the information and start constructive conversations it is a must. Sure, the majority of MVs are little more than 'krylon rebuilds'... but when they are not, the owner should take just as much effort in explaining the process as doing it. It can motivate others, or more importantly, point out an item overlooked, or result in a tip that makes life easier.
Its much more than about being a big green truck.
