I wanted a rice cooker... so I find a highly rated one online

With taxes its the exact same price... but the closest Walmart in stock is a 35 mile round trip (2 gallons of gas, and about 2 hours of my time).

The local Walmart is 6 miles away, round trip, and it will take a week to get it in stock if I ordered it ship-to-store (Not going to pay to ship it to my home.. as that would take 3-4 days).

So again, Amazon wins.. not on price (even if you added in the Prime membership vs gas it's still a wash) but because for the exact same money I get the item at my front door in a day, at worst two.

And a side note... since I signed up for AmazonSmile 0.5% (one half of one percent) of certain products I buy is donated to a charity of my choice (The Hillside SPCA).

So while it may not be a huge contribution (I give to the puppies quiet frequently... not just this) Walmart does jack shit (although local stores do give to local charities... its never the SPCA).

Rice cooker showed up and I made 1 cup of rice and steamed some green beans. Everything came out fine but I did forget to wash the rice to get ride of excess starch... there were a few brown sopts on the bottom layer but I thing that was due to not pre-rinsing.

The chicken was not defrosted so I could not steam that... I will try it this weekend.

The thing is also a slow cooker... so I plan on making some stews to liven up the menu.

Not a bad deal for $40... beats standing at the stove. With the timer I can 'set it and forget it' and come home to some good eats.
