Been researching data plates. The Becker/Dentzer book and the Sunderlin CCKW articles are pretty weak.
So I try my google-fu and lo and behold, our favorite CCKW 'expert' has seemingly flipped a flop WRT data plates:
On the CCKW.org forum a guy asks about the Lt Horne data plates (they come in pretty brass!)

Feedback will not tell a thing.
Details speak for themselves. What happens is that font and exact wording do not always match. Brass was not all that common on factory issue trucks, Army did use brass for replacement. The real proof is that they match original holes.
The gentleman offered to send me dimensions. Not all repros match up to trucks. He has not done so.
We don't hear from customers as some do not care, and others do not want to admit they got screwed. There was a plate frpm France that seller insisted it was original as he bought it at a military flea market. The buyer has contacted me to let me know he got screwed.
It is up to you all to police the plates.
Who wants to buy the first set?
And finally, the head shot:

I can't believe that all of you are satisfied Data Plate buyers.
Lo and behold THE NEXT GOOGLE LINK:
I ask about the 'Lt Horne' data plates that show up on e-bay. The guy is simply hawking wares, so I put out a post asking if the data plates are ok.

Those are an accurate reproduction of CCKW Open Cab Data Plates. There are different contract Open Cabs, these are a perfect match for a 43-on Open Cab.

Data Plate is correct, the seller has a good line of Data Plates. I would not hesitate to use it if I had the Open Cab model that matches it. There are a lot of minor details on CCKWs that take lots of study to learn. Not all have the benefit of seeing enough CCKWs to learn all the differences. Don't go by the Data Plate in this instance, go by the TM. There are two versions of TM9-801.
Pretty strong endorsement from a guy who says he's seen more CCKWs than GMC itself.
I have documented the Ben Hur data plate errors from 'Lt. Horne'. And here is the 'quality' of his GPW data plates:
VS an exact repro:
Notice the significant difference in quality? Yet the 60+ year CCKW guy is saying that the CCKW data plates (available in brass, no less) are accurate reproductions less than 7 months after saying they are not.
Moral of the story? Stop being a lemming. Research for yourself, and with just a smidgen of effort you will learn that while a person might have 9000+ posts on a web site, the amount of KNOWLEDGE they have is nowhere near that number
I did find the 'lt horne' e-bay store, he does not list any CCKW data plates currently. My truck still has the original plates less data plate (including the stamped pubs plate referencing TM10-1632.. that was a surprise).
