Well,
Seems that the need to question my research has lead to the questioning of one of my statements. I don't know why people have not learned that I don't make this stuff up, BUT, a DUCK and CCKW ARE RATED FOR 10,000lbs of cargo on hard surfaced roads. The 5,000lb limit is for CROSS COUNTRY.
On another board I posted an article (with references) from an official GM historian that the max load was, in fact 10,000.
Here is more proof that the max load is, in fact, 10,000.
Army Motors 8/44 page 6
"When the duck's 5000 lb payload is exceeded, the tire pressures specified on the dash instruction plate should be increased one pound for each 1,000 lbs of overload."
"..should more than 10,000 lbs. be carried..."
Reference WDC 228 7 Jun 44
It even gives you the PSI per 1,000lbs you need to up your tires. That means that a fully loaded CCKW with a 10,000lb cargo is running 65+ PSI.
Why aren't tires blowing out, and locking rings flying off and killing small children at parades? Because the tire and rim are designed to take that and more.
To all the CCKW owners that question me.. I give you this PIMP SLAP with the hope that you will stop blindly questioning me without at least researching the issue. Its not hard.
