CCKW assembly from TUP in France, 1944

I watched this twice.

UNBELIEVABLE RECORD of CCKWs right off the factory line.

If you don't learn 10 new things from watching this then turn in your drivers permit.

2:30 in when they swing the engine/chassis onto the blocks you can see the valve cover decals at the rear of the valve cover, and the deep sump oil pan decal is clearly visible (although illegible).

Look at that oil filer! The decals are visible in many shots. Note the balance point of the hoist.

4:52 in excellent view of my favorite part.. the fuel level sight plug. WOW WOW WOW

6:42 in cast iron carb! GI is bolting on the air cleaner mounting bracket. This is interesting.. the film has to be post D-Day (its in France) and the narrator references St. Lo (20 July). So if these are of the same line, that would mean that even 7 months after the introduction of the cast iron carb (Jan 44) shipping crates still contained CCKWs with die cast carbs. WOW. What a great time reference.

9:03 in painting the National symbol. Note that trucks left the line with NO registration numbers... added post assembly. Also note the reflectors on the wooden bed were the ball (beehive) type.

9:19 the only registration number in the whole film is visible.. I make it out as 4255711. That would fit in with an early 43 truck. And looking at the trucks features (running boards, wood bed, gas can mount) so the types of trucks in the shipping crates were months old.

I would also love to know what the papers/stickers in the passenger side window say. They look identical to the picture of the CCKW right off the production line I found from the GM Historical Archives.

Anyone have any ideas?
