water proofing shield.
on an older cckw i bought there was a metal cover over the distibutor, plug wire and coil it sealed the whole ignition system.is this old news or something used on an invasion vehicle.if needed i will try to do photos ive owned 12 cckws over the years and never saw this before thanks.
Re: water proofing shield.
That is an early form of shielding. It was used in very early trucks to suppress RF interference. The CCKW, AFKWX, DUKW and Chevy 1.5 ton truck all at one point had these tin shields.
They are very rare as they are very flimsy and easily damaged.
Here is the tin shield on the G506: Here is it on the DUKW (well, best pic I have): Here is the SNL photo of the CCKW/AFKWX shielding:
Supposed to be on CCKWs after chassis number 394577. That would be 1944-ish.
My copy of TM9-809 AFK WX-353 27 May 43 shows no such shielding.
I don't think I have ever seen a CCKW with the shielding, or a picture of one.

I did find this:

Looks like shop vans may have gotten them. The DoD info is 4-44.

Re: water proofing shield.
the bottom photos are like the one i have it is flimsy but i had never seen one so it was carefully removed .it was on a timken axle cckw.thanks for all the info and photos.
Re: water proofing shield.
I don't now any DUKW owners, but you may want to email Rex Ward in the UK ( http://www.milweb.net/go/rexward/ ). He has seen quite a few DUKWs and probably knows a ton about them.
I don't think the application was used on cargo trucks. There is nothing about them in the TM9-801s and cargo trucks are suppressed with filters and ground straps. If you post your chassis SN we can decode it to see what configuration your truck should have had. Most likely an ST-5 or ST-6 shop van.
I would think that if yours in in good shape it would be quite valuable.

Re: water proofing shield.
This photo is from a bolster truck listed for sale on ebay.uk
Other than being all kids of the wrong color its an excellent shot of the tin shielding used on DUKWs and some specific CCKW models.
