Kobalt 'Sockets for life' scam

Postby pfarber » Wed Aug 28, 2013 9:12 pm

So I get a good deal on the 19 piece socket set from lowes... like $19. All I needed was a 10mm.. but single deep wells are like $3.50. So I figure that the $19.95 price for 16 sockets plus a ratchet, extension and universal joint is a better deal. Like Craftsman, they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee (I assume you just take broken item back to lowes, somehow get another one.. not sure how it works).

But they have this 'sockets for life' thing... BUT you have to register... so, thinking it might be a good deal, I register. Yes, you get as many FREE sockets as you like. But the fine print:

Step 3 - Order Completion

Shipping and handling charges do apply for each socket ordered through a "Sockets For Life" claim. Shipping and handling charge is per socket. You will be asked to submit credit card payment information before your order can be completed. The shipping & handling charges are as follows:

$4.95 - 1/4" drive, 3/8" drive and 1/2" drive sockets
$5.95 - Impact sockets
$6.95 - 3/4" drive sockets
$5.00 - Additional charge for each shipment to Canada

It will cost you $1.50 more to to get a free socket than if you would just buy one off the shelf. Also, the ratchet is not covered... just the sockets.

Yes, I was scammed thinking that I might get a good deal if I lost a socket. Live and learn.
I got a Mountain Cur and a ~~pitbull~~ big loveable cuddle puppy
