Genny harness wire and loom.

Post by pfarber »

Got my order for 20 ft of each of the appropriate wire(s) and loom to make a few generator harness.

Less than $42 total. Not bad.. fast shipping and the braided wire is fabulous (don't get to use that word very much).

The search or the correct flag terminal, loop type continues. I may end up cutting some metal to make them.. but tinning them may be an issue.

I have one source but they only list one size wire and don't mention the hole diameter.

I'm hoping to get some genny harnesses made up for < $20 each. Not 100% repro but none of the places that are selling $50+ harnesses seem to have the right connectors anyway.

Scored some rather obscenely expensive loop type flag terminals of the exact same type as used on the original 1943 CCKW electrical harness.

None of the wire places had the correct flag terminals, well, none that listed terminals for sale. I would be interested in seeing what the repro harness flag terminals look like.

The source of these expensive buggers? Fastenal. I nervously gave them two flag terminals (the 8 Ga and 14 Ga wire ones) and they matched them.

This is typically what I have found available:

One place gave me a handful for free.. but they are of little use to me and my truck.

Once the ordered terminals get here I'll slap a harness together.

Was asked about what Fastenal sent me.... they sent me battery terminals. They 'looked' right but were for battery posts (like 1/2 in diameter). So they went back. That's why they were $5.

Kind of like this:

Ok, photos! These are the original brass/tin plated connectors:

And now the 'NOS or reproduction' parts supplied on a $1300 harness from what I was told was the BEST place to get an MV harness:

The flag terminal on the left is the kicker. There a lot of them. The others are close enough (but using vacuum hose as an insulator is not something that I am thrilled to see).

The braiding is OK, there are some small issues that I will cover in the full review later on.
