Seems that the most expensive parts on a CCKW are the axles, but a wide margin.
The single most expensive part on a CCKW?

Amazing that the axle is more expensive than the engine !
Re: The single most expensive part on a CCKW?
Rzeppa CV joints seem to be much more complex assemblies to machine than the Bendix. The Bendix axle was about $100 cheaper... the parts are basically the same until you get into the hubs and CV joints proper.. then the complexity of the Rzeppa joints are clear. The G503s also had this this issue... two types of CV joints... Rzeppa and Bendix, Bendix was also much cheaper.
Add to that the banjo casting itself.. that alone was probably a big chunk of change in 1942/3.
