Where are they? All I seen to find are persons that just paint their trucks and hang canvas webbing, not much to learn that way, where are the experts?

They are all on other web sites trying to all get along rather than figure out whats right.

Its amazing how one minute the 'experts' are blindly followed, then when questioned or asked for proof they either cannot answer or have none.

I'd be teh first to admit that I was wrong about something... as soon as proof was offered.

The proof is in the pudding, a good truck is convincing evidence of ability, and there are some nice restorations out there. A restoration does not have to be perfect, the most important detail is to get it to run right, the rest will fall in place. I have followed all the sites with interest and have noted that the experts are proud of their hobby and share their knowledge with those who are eager to learn the finer details of their machines. It takes all kinds to make up the hobby, from those who enjoy it, down to those who are a pain in the ass.

The title you chose for this thread is not correct. DEUCE refers to M series trucks. A CCKW was nicknamed 'Jimmy'.

As for looking at others trucks, that is always a good start. But if a restored truck is not questioned (even if it is by someone who is knowledgeable) then it will be accepted, even if wrong. One huge example is the brass data plates. Many, many people thought they were correct. An very knowledgeable person wrote that they were not, and gave plenty of details how and why.

Most wooden steering wheels on 'restored' CCKWs have natural wood rims. That is also incorrect and should be pointed out. It does look nice, but on a restored CCKW it is incorrect. As the 'original owners' of the CCKWs start to leave us for the big motor pool in the sky, its up to the later generations to keep the information and correct what the previous restorers may have screwed up. Ditto for rubber steering wheels. They really would not have been on production units after late 42 or early 43. Had to save the rubber for tires and other more important items.

I'm always up for a good discussion. That's the only way the restored CCKWs can improve.
