Another SWEET HF deal

I've been looking for a trailer for some time... the half ton Harbor Freight trailers seem to get high praises on motorcycle and home improvement boards for low cost, reliability and ease of use.

So I scan the net for a 15% off coupon. Found one, PLUS a free screwdriver set!

Go to the HF in Reading PA (they are opening a HF in Pottsville next spring.. BONUS!) the trailer I wanted http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=90154 is normally $339. Manager Special for $299, less 15% = $254.15!!!! SWEET DEAL!

Still got to put it together and title/tag it, but thats maybe another $50. So for a tad over $300 I'll have a trailer rated at 1100 lbs and will be able to fold it up for storage in the garage.

Not a bad deal.

Nice trailer if you have a New Beetle and have to haul one sheet of 1/4" plywood home. At 287# weight it will dribble like a basketball, and contact the road every four feet at speed, but will be easy to see in the rear view. Easy to assemble, just a screwdriver, pliers, and a 1/4" drive socket set is needed, not something I would tow from PA to West Coast and back, it is flimsy and could fall apart on long trips , The 2 ply tires also leave a lot to be desired, having plenty of spares is a must. It has a built in folding feature, and will probably colapse under load if anyone larger than those in the HF shop that made it steps on it. Not a good idea for the consummate MV colector traveling the country looking for MV parts to haul back It is a toy and "unsafe at any speed". Hell, my old wind up wrist watch has larger bearings. You just pee'd away 254 bucks, the free promo screwdriver set HF threw in will out last the trailer.

ALL the BOLTS (no screws were used in the construction) were 17mm. The axle is the same you you buy from Northern Tools or Tractor supply.

It will hold half a ton (1100lbs). That's more than a few sheets of drywall.

This trailer goes for upwards of $800 new as a motorcycle carrier.

Its a UTILITY trailer.. not a car carrier... you should google and see that 99% of the people that have them love them.

As for the tires:

This DOT certified tire is mounted on a corrosion-resistant, white spoke rim.

* Maximum load: 1045 lbs. @ 80 PSI

The Illustration for the Item Number 90154 shows a 4 bolt wheel. Drive carefully if you expect it to make the 4000 mile round trip with a 287# Trailer.

Be interesting to see if a 290# erector set on wheels will survive coast to coast trip.

It did.

I was originally going to disassemble the trailer and put it in the Durango, but we wanted to sleep+drive to keep the miles going.. so it was hauled out empty (2800+ miles out, 2900+miles back loaded).

So that's over 5600+ miles on a trailer and its fine. I got rained on, snowed on, heat/cold you name it. Not one bolt came lose, the bearings never got hot and its home in the garage now taking a nap.. with my wooden CCKW cargo bed still on top of it.
