CCKW ELECTRICAL WIRING/HARNESS!!!

Postby pfarber » Sat Jan 23, 2010 1:06 pm

I found this while looking for a source of CCKW harnesses. It says 6x4 but the SNL doesn't really make any difference except for AFKWX models. I plan to call and get more info. These are 2009 prices.

1944 GMC TRUCK Military /model CCW 6x4
1. Dash Harness 266.00
2. Headlight Harness 147.00
3. Body and Taillights Harness 329.00
4. Generator to Voltage Regulator Harness 50.00
5. Starter Switch to Ammeter Wire 24.00
6. Ammeter to Battery Filter Wire 8.00
7. Ignition Switch to Ignition Filter Wire 6.00
8. Starter Sw. to Compressor Motor Cable [opt.] 76.00
9. Positive Battery Cable 50.00
10. Negative Battery Strap 30.00

They do sell wire by the foot. If you have an original to copy it would be way cheaper to do that. They also list connectors.

The wiring 'harness' was usually run through an outer cloth loom.

Here is a pretty good selection:

Here's a somewhat better source... more loom diameters and priced PER FOOT.

The goofy wire terminals on the generator to regulator harness are 'Flag style, loop type'. At least that's what I have in one of the catalogs I finally* found them in... for 30's era Fords. :?

Gonna hit up some local shops to see what they think... and hopefully snag a few.

Here are some pics of the flat terminal, loop type off my obviously post war french harness.

You need a special roll crimper die to get a nice tight crimp. The second photo seems to be a generic guage terminal... its on an 16 gauge wire, but it looks like it could fit over a much larger wire.

Not factory correct as seen on the G506/G508. They could have been supply issue, but not from GMC/Chevvy.

Here's what I see from my factory orifinals:

I believe the originals are tin plated brass. I have not seen any pure brass connectors.
Both legs are 'thick'. Factory parts have 1 thin 'leg' for the actual inner wire to be soldered to, and a 'fat' leg to hold the wire where the insulation is not cut.

Here's a drawing that even shows the legs on all the flag connectors being different sizes (TM9-801 pg 257)

Thanks for the pics. So those look different than the ones you previously posted... including the rounded shape of the flag, and also the width of the crimped strips.

I bought a few any way, just in case I need to add a conductor to my harness or make repairs. They were cheap enough...

Simple enough to tin brass if I need to. How is your flag terminal project coming?

As I mentioned in the post of the first photos they appeared to be post war. Since the truck I got was reconditioned in France (even the split axles were 'Bendix - Made in France' so post war castings off of war time molds, how cool is that?)

Sadly, Vintage Wiring of Maine will sell you $1000+ worth of repo harnesses with made in china terminals. Complete rip off.. and they were so highly rated.

If you have the TM10's some of the photo show the terminals pretty clearly also.
