Looking at the parts Manual TM10-1562 dated 1 May 1943 for installed fire extinguishers:
This covers CCKW SNs from 164608-H1 through 294802-A1 (not inclusively... there are some SN gaps, There is a previous TM10 Parts manual from mid 42 that I do not have)
The SNL lists
Lists 3 extinguishers.. one can be removed (CCW only) and that leaves two.
The I know are at least two SNLs between the 15 July 45 that most of us have: SNL G-508 dated 16 Oct 44 and the DUKW SNL that might list fire extinguishers... I have neither.
But looking at the above the GM-2176169 (PYR-9649) supersedes GM-2173964 so without looking at the 42 TM10 parts book I cannot make any further statements other than by 1 May 43 the CCKW standardized on PYR-9649 as used in the G501 DUKW (G501-0176713).

Re: Fire extinguishers
As for mounting brackets other than the one I already posted I cannot seem to find a TM image of the extinguisher mounted.
I think a lot of the mounts used today are wall mounts... remember Pyrene was really a home fire fighting tool. Almost none of the ads I could find show Pyrene selling an automotive extinguisher.
I think that the basic (or minimum) bracket would HAVE to have at LEAST 1 metal band. There is no way, without a band, that I can see a fire extinguisher staying put in a combat vehicle. My guess is that the single band mount is the early one, and later it was improved to include a second metal band.
Of course the TM9-1799 says this (describes the mounting bracket):
Says its only held in by an 'anti rattle spring'.

Re: Fire extinguishers
Not to beat up on jeepdraw but of the photo's of the Pyrene, Fire Gun and S.O.S Fire Guard seem to have little to connect them to the jeep, and less to a Chevy or CCKW.
Pyrene: Newark 8 address and 4 cities on a single line, post war. If the cities were stacked 2x2 then winner.
Fire Gun: Going by the '44 AM its not a match.
S.O.S Fire Guard: Again, '44 AM is not a match.
Since I have little jeep info I won't try and extrapolate what goes where... my main effort is for Chevy/CCKWs

Re: Fire extinguishers
Here is another Army Motors (July 1943) article about fire extinguishers:
This appears to be an S.O.S extinguisher but it looks to be painted OD, with a brass (or possibly a decal) name plate.
This would agree with 'early war' (pre 44) PYRENE extinguishers that were painted OD with a decal.
Also note the hanger... it appears to be a 'wall mount' type, no springs or latching bands to hold it in place.

Re: Fire extinguishers
I do believe I gots me a wartime extinguisher:
Address is just NEWARK (no 8 )
Cities are stacked 2x2
Verbiage and black background match the AM article.
Pd. $37!
Still looking for a Pyrene C-21 and a Pyrene can without a brass label.. for a decal
