Gantry Crane!!!

Post by pfarber »

Got a 15% off discount at (everybody luvs) Harbor Freight. Flyer also had their 1 ton gantry crane on sale for $529. ($70 off). I also got the 15% off the SALE PRICE(!) so the crane cost me less than $450. Added a 2 ton hoist for $70. I already had a chainfall and load leveler.

Below are some construction pics. Its pretty solid. I've already had 500lbs on it and it didn't even make a noise holding it.

Only part that sucks is that it WILL NOT fit over a later M series bed. I have a drop side off an M-35 (free to good home) and it is 95in wide. So is the crane. But the hinges stick out another 1/2 inch so no go. :( It will fit the CCKW bed, and the cab is also not a problem. At the max height (12ft) it should lift the cab over the engine and off the frame... or back it off the rear over the wheels. Either way its good.

Assembled and cranked up. This is about 10ft high. Still have another 2 ft-ish left. Nice solid crane for a total cost of less than $600.

I used the bed of the CCKW to put the cross beam on the uprights. No way one person is going to do it flat and lift the assembly into the air. That's 500lbs of steel.

On the truck at home. Gross weight of the crane is slightly over 600lbs.
