36. Install oil felt “D”.
37. Install felt expander ring “E”, Fig. 21, with the grippers pointing upward and outward as illustrated in Fig. 22. Hook the expander ring securely in notch provided near the loop.
38. Place felt retainer plate “F”, Fig. 21, over the felt and felt expander ring. Register opening squarely over the loop in the expander ring.
39. Run the piston rod nut down to the end of the threads on the front end of the piston rod (the port holes are in the rear end of the piston rod). Coat threads of piston rod with shellac or sealing compound.
41. Turn the end nut down until it is just flush with the end of the piston rod. Following this, tight en the other nut firmly against the piston plate. After final tightening, the nut at the end of the piston rod should be exactly flush with the end of the piston rod. Stake the outside and inside nuts at several places, using a center punch.
42. Place the front piston rod nut in a vice with the piston rod upward. Care must be taken so that the lip of the leather piston cup is not bent out of shape.
